Freefallen's (First) 5 Favorite Songs List
Well, I'm going to have to agree with Mr. Cality on this one. There's NO WAY I'd be able to figure out which five songs I like above all the hundreds of others and just limit myself to them. But I don't choose certain songs according to my mood at the time. I'll usually just look at a CD or a self-compiled tape to see what's on it and choose by what I see listed rather than matching music to mood. Good songs always make me feel good, no matter what frame of mind I'm in. So what I'm going to do is just pick out what I consider 5 really good songs each time and list them in an order that might be pleasing to the ear. That is how this first list is arranged, save for Number One. If someone put a gun to my head, that one would definitely be on the short list for all-time favorite. But these, and all the songs on any subsequent lists, are all in the upper echelon of what I enjoy.

I think a word of explanation concerning my musical tastes is in order. I had an older cousin with whom I pretty much grew up, who was the youngest of six children, and his brothers and sisters were all a good bit older than he was. I was like his younger brother, and he was my hero for as far back as I can remember. He grew up in a house where he heard music that was "before his time" constantly, and he came to know a lot about it, and love it. Since he was pretty much my idol, I of course loved everything that he did, so he had a very willing follower when it came to many things, music being one of them. Which is how I got to know a lot about music that I was not around for, or too young to know about when it was first released. But I loved him and the music so much that I would devour all I could about it, from books, TV, radio, magazines, just anything I could come into contact with. I became fascinated by "influences", what the artists I admired listened to when they were growing up that made them want to make music. I listened to THAT music too, to try to hear what it was that helped inspire the great sounds I enjoyed so much. That took me back into the fifties, and a bit further in some cases. I learned a lot of things from this labor of love, the greatest of which was there was great music made before I was born, and there will be great music made after I'm gone. Learning about the music helped me learn about different attitudes that existed at different times in the Twentieth Century, and how it all helped shape music, and history, and gave us what we have today. Just because it's "old" doesn't mean it's not worth investigating and a least giving a listen. That's the story of how I came to enjoy "classic rock".

Here is my first list. I hope you enjoy what you hear. :-)
